Porto Photo Gallery - Avenida dos Aliados & Mercado do Bolhão

Avenida dos Aliados (#5) is Porto's grand avenue with stately buildings that look a world away from the historic centre's narrow alleys and colourful houses. Named after Portugal's alliance with England made in the 14th century, this is a must see for architecture fans.

Igreja da Trindade sits behind City Hall. It is surprisingly serene despite being in the heart of the city as its main entrance faces away from the train station on the other side.

I'm a big fan of visiting local markets during my trips. Mercado do Bolhao is a few blocks away from the grand avenue and has served the community since 1850. While I visited on a market day, I arrived a bit too early thanks to jetlag.

A fresh pastry and drink costed less than 2 euros. What a bargain!
