Shantou Photo Gallery - Crumbling Downtown #3

Hong Kong's richest man, Li Ka-shing, is originally from the Chaoshan area. I wonder why his portrait is hung in this modest shop?

Turning onto Yongping Road, I noticed some attempts to incorporate street art onto the renovated building facades.

At the end of the street and fronting Waima Road is the Shantou Opening Port Culture Exhibition Hall, which showcases the city's history since the port opened in 1860.

Across the street is the historic post office that still serves the same function today.

Continuing my walking tour along Waima Road towards People's Square.

Heading west, I was hoping to capture more of Anping Road's further outreaches, and as suspected, here were more crumbling buildings, fenced-off streets, and redevelopment on it and its neighbouring streets.
