Taipei Datong District Photo Gallery

Taiwan Flag

Datong District is an old and gritty area with Qing and Japanese colonial period buildings.

This stretch of Tamsui riverfront is not a major tourist attraction. Visitors opt to go further downstream to the coast for a beautiful sunset instead.

Dihua Street was built in the 1850s and was historically a major shopping area for Chinese medicine, fabrics, and Chinese New Year accessories. The area flourished after Taiwan was opened up to foreign trade after the Second Opium War and merchants built fancy mansions here. The architecture was further enhanced during the Japanese colonial era.
