Taipei Sanxia & Yingge Photo Gallery

Taiwan Flag

Sanxia was once an important trading centre, being at the confluence of 3 rivers, and merchants built a major commerce street with traditional architecture.

The merchants who lived here used top quality materials and showcased the architecture to reflect their stature.

A free but infrequent shuttle bus takes visitors to the next town, Yingge, which is famous for pottery.

My first stop is the Yingge Ceramics Museum, which traces the history of Taiwan's ceramics industry.

The "old street" does not look very old but is the shopping mall for local ceramics. The prices are quite reasonable and it is possible to find some lovely bargains.

Yingge is located on a major train line to Taipei, taking just 30 minutes.
