Flying Above Toronto - Mississauga Photo Gallery

Named after the Native peoples who lived here, the first Europeans arrived in the 17th century, signing treaties in 1805, 1818, and 1820 for the Crown to acquire land from the Natives.

Mississauga became a town in 1968 and a city in 1974. Trying to shed its suburban image, a vision for a new downtown around Square One shopping centre was devised in 2010 and construction is under way.

The city appeared on the architectural map when the twisty Absolute Towers were built in 2012. Mississauga was no longer a boring suburb.

More skyscrapers are rising on the west and south sides of the mall.

However, the density tapers off quickly and the lowrise suburb returns.
