Flying Above Toronto - Richmond Hill Photo Gallery

Incorporated in 1872 as a village, Richmond Hill is located north of Toronto and is home to over 200,000 residents. Development originally clustered around Yonge Street to serve farmers and travellers to and from Toronto.

Typical of North America's suburban communities, there are neighbourhoods of urban sprawl with lowrise houses, although more intensified developments have started to appear along the major corridors. The subway line will eventually extend into Richmond Hill's southern edge.

The University of Toronto's David Dunlap Observatory opened in 1935 with the country's largest telescope. Built on a 19th century farmstead after the university could no longer use the downtown observatory due to light pollution, the university sold the property to developers in 2008. Mediation followed to create a large park for half the site.
