North York Centre is a booming residential community thanks to Mayor Mel Lastman's vision. It became a miniature downtown with highrise residentials lining the subway line along Yonge Street. A new station was added to improve accessibility, and the boom has continued since.
The highrise cluster's northern end is around Finch Avenue, the current subway terminus. However, more developments continue along Yonge Street heading northward, and the subway line is slated to be extended further into Richmond Hill.
There are huge commuter parking lots on both sides of Yonge Street to cater for suburban residents driving into the city to take the subway.
There is also vibrant street-level retail with many Asian restaurants in the area.
However, the density tapers off quickly just a block off Yonge Street. We're back to a sea of lowrise houses.
