Cathedraltown was inspired by the classic Georgian and Regency architecture of London from the late 18th to early 19th century. Its centre is the 14-storey Cathedral of the Transfiguration, with housing sprawling around it. The original design plan approved in 2005 calls for mixed densities from condominiums to townhouses and single family homes in the community.
The enclave is near Highway 404 for a congested way to downtown.
The realms of suburbia have expanded further and further north over the years. At the eastern end of Markham, development has approached Major Mackenzie Drive and likely will push into the farmland beyond soon.
While there are more highrises along Highway 7, the next 2 major roads heading north are still mostly lowrise houses.
