Toronto Photo Gallery - Fall Colours #4
Algonquin Park

Algonquin Park is 300km north of Toronto and is one of the best places to see the fall colours. Despite the distance, many make the long journey north for the day trip. Getting here is fairly easy by highway and many of the key trails with views are accessible from Hwy 60, which traverses through the park.

However, during peak season, arrive as soon as the West Gate opens before the hordes of tourists from Toronto reach here. You first need to make a turn-off from the highway to buy a day pass. The whole process is fairly well-organized so just pull your car up in line, tap your credit card for $21, grab a map, and get started.

Your map will show the key trails and lookout points based on the km mark on Hwy 60. First stop is Track & Tower trail at km 25, which offers a good view at a canopy level. Don't do the entire trail but go as far as you are comfortable with the photos. I started with the western leg and walked about 2km deep into the woods.

Continuing east on Hwy 60, Lake of To Rivers is a scenic place to stop for a picnic past the km 30 mark.
