Located on a 7.8 acre site at Front Street and Spadina Avenue across the railroad tracks from Cityplace, The Well comprises 6 residential towers, 1 office tower, and 420,000 square feet of retail space with a pedestrianized outdoor shopping street that has a protective glass canopy above it.

The concept of having pedestrian first over car is quite novel in Toronto. The architects had envisioned a 5 or 15-minute city where living, working, and shopping can be achieved.

As usual, the media had focused on the less affordable downtown prices such as $2524 per month for a studio or $6553 a month for a 3-bedroom and why the city didn't force the developers to add affordable housing, although they argued inclusionary zoning regulation came into effect after this project's plan was approved.

Historically, this area was a manufacturing and warehouse zone in the first half of the 20th century.
