Xiamen Photo Gallery - Trains & Buses

Xiamen's metro network consists of 3 lines (as of May 2023) although it doesn't hit all the key tourist attractions. Fares range from 2 to 8 yuan but these trains don't necessarily go near many of the city's key attractions and it doesn't reach the airport.

However, it does reach the city's 2 main railway stations where high-speed services go.

Screens above train doors show which car you are in and where is the nearest escalator or elevator at the upcoming station. Announcements are made in local dialect, Mandarin, and English.

Announcements also encourage passengers to wear masks, and vending machines selling these are quite common.

Construction continues with more lines under way.

Xiamen's bus network is quite extensive. In addition to the BRT which used to be the backbone before the metro opened, I relied on buses to tour the city's sights since the metro doesn't stop near popular attractions such as the Eighth Seafood Market, Overseas Chinese Museum, Shapowei cultural area, and Hulishan Fortress.

High-speed trains arrive at either the North or main railway station. Xiamen North has more trains but is a long 29 km ride into Zhongshan Lu shopping street, taking over 50 minutes. The main station is more centrally-located, with the metro journey taking less than half the time, although that same train would spend the saved time coming into the city from the North station anyway.
