Basildon Park Photo Gallery

Basildon Park's history is attributed to Francis Skyes, who purchased the estate in 1771 and asked architect John Carr to build an Italian Palladian style mansion using Bath stone, funded by his fortune from the East India Company.

it was badly damaged during both World Wars when it became a home and training centre for for officers and soldiers and a prisoner of war camp. Lord and Lady Iliffe came into the picture in 1950s, saving the mansion from demolition and repairing the damage done. They also furnished the mansion's interiors with fine furniture and artworks.
