Luxor Photo Gallery - Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple is in the heart of town and was built for the Theban triad, Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. It was abandoned after the Romans came in the 3rd century and was rediscovered in 1881.

The entrance consists of 2 seated statues of Ramses and a 25m high obelisk. The obelisk actually had a neighbour, but it was removed and sent to Place de la Concorde in Paris as a gift.

After examining the detailed carvings, I headed back outside to see the temple brilliantly illuminated as it is open until late.
