Egypt Photo Gallery

In hindsight, this was one of my best-timed trips ever. Having decided not to pay an extra premium for flying during the Christmas holiday season, I decided to visit Egypt in early December. This turned out to be a wise choice, as the revolution started shortly after I left. It was surreal to watch the Egyptian Museum get ransacked on the news when I was just inside that very same building just weeks ago.

My first venture into Africa would be on a group tour, lured by an attractive price of just under HKD $11,000 (USD $1400) all-in, hotel, flights, all meals over 8 days on the ground (total 10 days factoring in the flights). Out-of-pocket add-ons include the excursion to Abu Simbel from Aswan, a hot air ballon ride over the Valley of Kings, and a 4WD adventure in the desert out of Hurghada.

The 3-day cruise down the Nile from Luxor to Aswan was my favourite part of the trip, with stops in the morning and late afternoon to see historical sights, and the rest of the day on board to enjoy the scenery, soak in some rays, and watch the local children say hello from the banks.

While this trip took place in 2010, I'm updating the photos throughout 2020 with larger versions and more commentary to give more flavour over this incredible ancient country.
