Helsinki Photo Gallery - City Centre Main Tourist Sights

Arriving at Helsinki's main railway station, walk around to enjoy the art nouveau features both inside and outside. Opened in 1919, some 200,000 passengers pass through daily.

A short walk away is the grand Senate Square, with the Lutheran catheral Tuomiokirkko towering over it. While imposing on the outside, the interiors are surprisingly simple.

The Old Market Hall is in the heart of the tourist district but it is worth a stop for a lunch break. Opened in 1889, the historic building has been modernized inside and still sells many raw ingredients today.

The culinary options extend outside to Kauppatori, or Market Square. Winter doesn't deter the hordes of tourists enjoy the various warm foods available.

Various ferries also leave from here for other sightseeing options.

A short walk away to exercise your lunch off is Uspenski Cathedral, a Russian Orthodox church that dates from 1868.

Temppeliaukio's attraction is the church is built into solid stone. Completed in 1969, it is immensely popular with tourists, but don't let the crowd deter you from examining the rock walls and the upstairs gallery where you can have a more serene look at the structure.
