The Polytechnic University began as the Government Trade School in 1937. The school officially became the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1972, and gained full university status in 1994. In 2017, over 27,000 students were enrolled at the university.

There were also bilingual educational material on the sequence of events and the anger arising as a result.

Protest posters include anger at the police and demands for an independent inquiry over their actions.

The slow police response against violent white-shirt protesters who attacked train passengers at Yuen Long station have prompted accusations the government, police, and triad gangs were working together to allow these assaults to happen.
