Malta Photo Gallery - Historic Valletta Part 3
The Grand Master's Palace was the former seat of Parliament until 2015 when they moved to near the city gate. Its history goes back to the late 16th century when Grand Master Fra Pietro del Monte commissioned the building, which was later enlarged by his successors. It remains the official residence of the president.
The well-decorated State Rooms are open to the public.
Downstairs, the Armoury has an extensive collection of weapons. The Knights of St. John had enough arms and armour to equip thousands of soldiers in defence of the Catholic faith against the Turks. The current collection is still housed in the same building but in what were the old stables.
