Mokpo Photo Gallery - Yudalsan

For a free panoramic view of the city, hike up Yudalsan, which is in the heart of the city. It is a reasonable walk from the train station through the side streets to the hike's start.

Attempts to revitalize a fairly quiet and poor city centre include light and art installations on the main streets.

It is a 10-minute uphill walk to reach the start.

This mountain is quite a popular hike and is much busier than the main streets below. The path is paved and it is not too difficult to hike up to the first few observation areas. A cable car, albeit delayed, is under construction to make the ascent even more seemless.

The Mid-day gun was first fired during the Japanese colonial era in 1908. The firing took place at 11am, one hour earlier than noon due to the time zone difference between Korea and Japan. It was noon in Japan and that was what mattered.

Luckily, there are many rest areas along the way as well as clean washrooms.

My hike would end at Ildeung-bawi, the main peak. Trails continue along the ridge to the second peak, but I was already content with the city and sea views.
