Shanghai has 2 major airports, with most international and long-haul flights using Pudong, while Hongqiao covers regional destinations and domestic flights. They're at different ends of the city but both have train connections.Pudong's Terminal 2 is a newer facility. In 2019, the entire airport handled over 76 million passengers, ranking #2 in the country after Beijing Capital.
Back in 2014 when this photo was taken, unpredictable flight delays were the norm across China, so a manual sign was installed for Hong Kong departures showing the upcoming flights and perhaps you can catch an earlier one.

Plane spotting here is quite decent with a good variety of birds.
