Stockholm Photo Gallery - Riddarholmen

Just off Gamla Stan is the small island of Riddarholmen, a must-see after checking out the historic centre and just an easy walk across the bridge.

There is plenty of open space to see Gamla Stan's historic skyline on the eastern side of the island.

The Riddarholmskyrkan church was built by Francisan monks in the late 13th century and served as the royal burial ground, including great monarchs such as Gustav II Adolf, who died in 1632. 17 monarchs are buried here up to 1950. As it has not served as a parish church since 1807, there are no services held here other than for burials or memorials.

The western end of the island has plenty of water views and a lot of public space to enjoy it.
