Stockholm's creation in the 13th century was driven by the need to protect Lake Malaren from pirates. It became a thriving trading centre and a key Hanseatic port.

I returned under the summer sun in 2024 to enjoy long walks, beautiful water views, and quaint museums. It's laid-back and relaxing here, making it a nice quieter option than other overtouristed European capitals. The added bonus of sunset after 10pm made achieving an excessive sightseeing itinerary possible.
