Tourists will likely need to rely on the bus network to get around even with the new MRT line already in operation. This is because the metro runs along the outer parts of the city and does not reach the city centre and main station yet.

Buses used to be free for the first 10km using an Easycard but that practice has ended and only residents with pre-programmed cards can now enjoy free rides. However, fares are still very affordable in the city with the cheapest Easycard fare being only 15 dollars.

The interiors of Taiwanese city buses in general are spacious with soft chairs and good legroom.

An express airport bus used to run from the city centre, costing NTD $100 for the over 10km journey from the city centre. However, that route no longer runs and slower local buses make that trip taking much more time.
