Just a short walk from the main railway station, the Shin Sei Green Waterway is now a nice public space worth a stroll with plenty of vegetation and water features along the way. Find your way to the Miyahara first, a red-brick building used by a Japanese opthalmology doctor as his clinic during the colonial era. After the war, it was used by the Taichung Health Bureau and subsequently by a pastry company.

Head across the street to enjoy the pastries or ice-cream you just got.

Surrounding buildings are in need of revitalization as well.

There is also another river revitalization project nearby. Liuchuan used to be badly polluted when industrialization came in the 1980s and the problem was forgotten as residents moved out of the central city in the 1990s as urban development moved westwards. In 2014, the government decided to take action by water treatment upstream and bringing in fresh water. A 610m stretch now includes pedestrian paths shown here.
