Windermere Aerials Photo Gallery

The first gateway to the Lake District coming in from the south is Windermere, a town that started when the railways arrived in 1847. Named after England's longest lake that stretches 10.5 miles, it's a good starting point with an easy hike that offers a great view.

The lakefront is actually further away at Bowness, a short drive down from Windermere. There are a number of lake excursion options as well as a commuter ferry across the lake.
