Yangshuo was once a quiet market town until tourism arrived in the late 1980s. It is surrounded by beautiful peaks and now is at the end of the Li River's popular cruise route. It was once a popular place for foreign backpackers, but now there are also domestic tour groups, and the town is no longer a serene oasis anymore. Nevertheless, there is plenty of beautiful nature within a short bike ride or drive away.
