There are 2 major cruise routes in the Guilin and Yangshuo area. One is to take an almost full-day journey from Guilin to Yangshuo along the Li River. The other is a much shorter ride on bamboo rafts along the Yulong River just west of Yangshuo. The bamboo raft trips are quite organized and regulated with several pre-set points where you can board, depending on how long your want that cruise to take. Prices are set and displayed on sign boards so there are no surprises.Bamboo rafts are manned but are generally pushed downstream by the river's force. Along the journey are a few small waterfalls that would result in a splash but customers are usually left dry afterwards. With grey weather, I chose to use Didi to visit a few key bridges along the river and walk a section instead. Fuli Bridge has a history of about 500 years and is my upstream starting point of the day.
Further downstream, some bamboo rafts set off next to Jinlong Bridge.
Continuing downstream, Yulong Bridge was built during the Ming Dynasty. At 60m long and 9m high, it is surrounded by a town with a small market street for some shopping and snacks before your cruise.
During the cruise, there are several small drop points along the river where the bamboo rafts will splash down to give a little thrill.
