Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square occupies 49 hectares and is capable of holding half a million people. To the south lies the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall while the Forbidden City lies directly to the north.
Great Hall of the People
Completed in 1959, the Great Hall of the People has a total floor space of 171,800 square metres divided into 3 parts : offices for the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and reception halls, a 10,000-seat Auditorium, and the Banquet Hall accommodating 5,000 people.

Chairman Mao Memorial Hall
Chairman Mao's remains lie in a crystal coffin in this building, which was completed in 1977. Currently, the remains of late Chairman Mao are mechanically raised from a freezer for viewing, then lowered again at night.
