Nara Photo Gallery - Tanzan Shrine

Reachable by bus from Sakurai, Tanzan Shrine is a popular fall foliage destination. In the 7th century, an assassination plot was devised here which resulted in a centralized state.

The shrine's staircase entry is quite dramatic with beautiful colours everywhere.

The 13-storey pagoda stands out uniquely among the many temple buildings spread across the hillside.

At the main shrine, head upstairs and amaze at the string of bells along the balcony.

From Sakurai station, the ??1?(??????) bus leaves from the southern exit to Tanzan Shrine several times a day at roughly hourly intervals at best. The ride takes about 30 minutes.
