Toyama Photo Gallery - Part 1

For those heading to the Alpine route, you will pass by Toyama at some point of your journey. This castle town was a medicine distribution centre during feudal times. The city was almost entirely destroyed during World War II bombing raids, and the glass industry emerged afterwards.

Today, the quaint city is a good stop for a day or two. It is not overrun by tourists like the Alpine route and hotel prices are very reasonable. Getting around is fairly straight forward with trams and buses as some of the sights are quite scattered. This part highlights the key attractions in the city centre.

Toyama Castle was home to the Maeda clan during the Edo period and is a cherry blossom hotspot in the spring.

The Glass Art Museum

Ikedaya Yasubei Shoten is a shop selling traditional medicines that dates back to 1936.

Toyama City Hall's free observation deck had plenty of windows to observe the city from above. Many Japanese cities offer this type of viewing spot in their public facilities.

Fronting the sea, do visit a supermarket to see what delicious fresh seafood is available for lunch.
