Fuzhou is located on Fujian's coast and was one of the 5 treaty ports that opened to foreign trade. It is not a major city for foreign tourists, but there is enough for a comfortably-paced long weekend.

While overshadowed by nearby Xiamen's historic quarter, Fuzhou is actually the provincial capital and has been a major port for over a thousand years where tea, sugar, cotton, and ceramics passed.

Three Lanes and Seven Alleys

The historic city centre has been revitalized and is now the most famous tourist destination in the city.

More Three Lanes and Seven Alleys

There are many houses open to the public on the various side streets. The fact that each charges its own admission means you will likely have the interior space mostly, if not all, to yourself.

River and Hills

Hike up Gushan or ride the cable car for a cool retreat from the hot summer.
