Athens Photo Gallery - Olympieion (Temple of Olympian Zeus)

Greece Flag

Athens is full of historic sites to explore and beyond the Acropolis, there are many more places to see around it.

Just a short walk from the Acropolis is the temple of Olympian Zeus. Construction probably started around 515 BC. However, it was believed to have been abandoned due to lack of funds, and it was finally completed by Hadrian in the 2nd century.

The temple originally consisted on 104 Corinthian columns, but only 15 remain with the fallen one caused by a storm in 1852.
